MT. ADAMS - A PNW FIRST

Our first true Summit (or I should say his, but more on that later) was thrilling, scary, breathtaking, both mentally and physically challenging, and we owe it all to the magnificent Mount Adams. We started the day a little anxious because we had yet to rent all the gear we needed for this hike which are crampons, an ice axe, and poles, and YES they are absolutely necessary and made all the difference between life or a slippery death in my opinion. We arrived at Next Adventure at 10am which is an amazing outdoor sporting goods shop in Portland, OR where you can find everything you could possibly need for any backpacking trip including a basement floor filled with used...

PAULINA LAKE- Volcanic Hot Springs

In the Newberry National Volcanic Monument located in Central Oregon lies Paulina Lake. This crater lake and its surrounding area is the result of more than 500,000 years of volcanic activity. It is a four hour drive from Portland and an amazing weekend trip option.  Josh and I have been dying to check these springs out ever since looking up pictures of them online. The pools are very easily accessible with two trail options. The first is a 7.5 mile loop around the lake and the second is a 1.2 mile stroll starting from Hot Spur Trail. Since we planned on backpacking and camping for the night we chose the shorter option, we wanted to find a spot and set...

Located in Washington State, Silver Star Mountain is an extinct volcano whose name was coined in 1874 when E.A Dole struck silver and built a mine in hopes of finding more. Believe me when I say that here are the most spectacular views I have EVER witnessed. When at the top, the 360 view showcases all of the greats around the area. The peaks of Mt. hood, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Jefferson, and Mt. Rainier,...

BAGBY HOT SPRINGS- Hot Water and Snow.

My eyes shot open at the crack of dawn on a chilly February morning with no alarm needed, I was way too excited for our big plans. We were going to go to Bagby Hot Springs. Bagby is probably Oregon's most popular hot springs and is usually quite busy, with waiting times of up to two hours in order to soak in one of the tubs, BUT it was a Sunday morning, and the sun was still nowhere in sight so Josh and I had high hopes for zero crowds. The two hour drive from Portland is well worth the trip, the only small tricky part is paying close attention to the road for the word "Bagby" written in bold...
